update!
Worsbrough Common Community Association meetings take place on the 3rd Monday of every month - these are
open meetings and everyone is welcome.
Worsbrough

currently applying for charitable status. This will enable the Association
to apply to a wider range of funding pots.
If
anyone has any ideas on events they would like to see next year or are
interested in being involved please get in touch on 249904 or call in
at the Community House, 39 Highstone Road.
The
Association will continue working towards Worsbrough Common becoming
a better and safer place for all to live.
Pre-Loved Shop - the shop has exceeded the original predictions
and continues to be well used and stocked. Because of this the shop
adjacent to the existing shop (which is currently empty) is going to be
used to display larger items such as tables and chairs.
The Commons Centre - work on the Commons Centre is
progressing. There has been a recent meeting with the architect and a
final brief will be completed. This will be a statement of the work
completed so far and the way forward,/the next steps to be taken. One
of the first steps will be applying for funding for the build.
An appeal for old photos - The WCCA are appealing for old
photographs of Worsbrough Common, as well as information and stories
about Worsbrough Common. We would eventually like to create a soft back
booklet containing these items.
If you have any photos, information or stories
please drop the information into Community House at Highstone Road.

The Ward Green Community Centre Group is chaired
by Mr Lew Whitehead who was awarded a MBE in the 2006 honours for his
volunteering in the community. Lew has been a volunteer for over
40 years and worked tirelessly with young people in the community in
engaging them into football.
The
Ward Green Community Centre Group were successful last year when
they applied for a grant for CRT (Coalfields regeneration trust).
The grant was for a project to take young people from the area to the
Metrodome, two evenings per week to enable them to take park in sports
and activities there.
The group have also received funding from Community Chest for picnic
benches which are placed next to the play equipment in the park on Genn
Lane, Ward Green.
The group is currently working very hard to progress the development of
a new community sports facility (on Genn Lane) which will accommodate
more changing rooms. This involves a lot of work, however the
group may shortly be at the stage of applying for funding for this
project.

Dale Tavern Junior Football Club -
The Dale Tavern JFC has just finished a very successful second season.
We would like to thank everyone involved, managers, coaches, parents,
committee, the Dale Tavern and all the customers and fundraisers - but
most off all the children in all our teams. This season we
started an under 14’s girls team and we hope to start an under
12’s girls team next season. We also started a Saturday league
adults team. All new managers and coaches have passed their
FA Football coaching Level One which consists of Child Protection and
First Aid accreditation. Also a couple of the managers have passed
their referees course. Our club is now Chartered Standard,
which is a very good achievement for all.
The group currently has nine teams.
