Regeneration of Bruce Avenue, Vernon Close, Fredrick Place, Mount Close and Mount Vernon Ave.

The first phase of this program has begun, residents living in Mount Close, Frederick Place and some properties in Mt Vernon Ave have been asked their thoughts on the demolition of their homes. We have discussed all possibilities with some of them and conveyed their concerns to Berneslai Homes. Proposals for this area will be put to the Board and we will know the outcome early in the New Year.

Where properties are demolished, they will be replaced by a housing association with mixed housing, for rent and shared ownership.

Rumours in the Barnsley Chronicle and elsewhere that there will be wholesale demolition are untrue.

We are involved with the discussions that are taking place with the regeneration team and should you have any concerns that you would like us to put to them, give one of us a call.

Properties on the Highstone Avenue side of Worsbrough Common (which are to be included in the decent Homes program) will have received letters advising them that a survey is to be carried out on their property to bring it up to “Decent Homes Standard”.  Scope of works letter detailing what work is to be carried out is the next step.

If you are not happy with the survey you have the right to appeal, but this must be done within 21 days of  receiving the letter.

At long last the first steps of the re-generation of Bruce Avenue & Vernon Close have started.

If you where unable to go to the events held in October, feel free to contact Mel Asquith on 774322 with your comments.  Together with Berneslai Homes and the WCCA we have arranged for fencing and gates to be erected to help some areas become more secure.  We are still evaluating different traffic calming measures for the Highstone Crescent area and will consult with residents when they are complete.
